Spanish (SPN) Courses

SPN-111 (4). Elementary Spanish I. Grammar, pronunciation, conversation, composition and reading. Introduction of present tenses and sentence construction. Conversation and compositions are based on selected short readings. Correlated language laboratory work. No Prerequisite.

SPN-112 (4). Elementary Spanish II. A continuation of SPN-111. Grammar, pronunciation, conversation, composition and reading. Introduction of the past tenses and the usage of the subjunctive mood. Compositions and conversation are based on selected short readings. Correlated language laboratory work. Prerequisite: SPN-111 or one year of high school Spanish.

SPN-121 (4). Intermediate Spanish I. A review and drill in Spanish grammar and idiom, collateral readings and oral reports. Special emphasis on written essays. Correlated language laboratory work. Prerequisite: SPN-112 or two years of high school Spanish.

SPN-122 (4). Intermediate Spanish II. A continuation of SPN-121. Selected readings of Spanish and Spanish American short stories and excerpts from novels. Stress on written composition. Correlated language laboratory work. Prerequisite: SPN-121 or three years of high school Spanish. IAI H1 900.

Speech (SPH) Courses

SPH-110 (3). Fundamentals of Speech. A beginning course in the theory and practice of effective public speaking. Attention is directed to the improvement of spoken rhetorical techniques, including diction, vocal delivery and listening, so that the student may develop proficiency in speaking with others. IAI C2 900.

SPH-111 (3). Public Speaking. A course designed to give training in the extended extemporaneous speech on issues of concern to an identifiable public. Emphasis is on the composition of the persuasive speech, including its research and its language style. Students also are required to develop standards of speech criticism. Prerequisite: ENG-111 with a grade of “C” or better. IAI C1 900.

Theater Arts (THR) Courses

THR-121 (3). Fundamentals of Theater Arts. An introduction to theater arts providing basic knowledge and experience of drama realized as theater. Acting, directing, play writing, designing scenery, costumes and lighting are studied. Also included are stage and house management and play production. Special Fee required. IAI F1 907.
