TRADITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The following materials are needed before a student may be accepted into Benedictine University at Springfield. A student is responsible for having all credentials sent to the College. You will be considered for admission as soon as all of your credentials are received; students are notified of acceptance on a rolling basis.

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or completion of a General Education Development Certificate (GED).
  • Official transcript(s) from high school for freshman and transfer students with less than 20 transferable credit hours.
  • Official transcript(s) from all colleges and universities previously attended.
  • Health Form.
  • ACT, SAT, GED or TOEFL (if applicable) scores. English Language proficiency.

A personal interview with the Director of Enrollment Services and/or additional
testing may be required of some applicants.

Freshman Students

  • Admission can be granted based on 6/7 semesters of high school provided senior year is successfully completed.

Home Schooled Students

  • A home-schooled student must submit a General Education Development Certificate (GED) to be considered for admission.
  • The State of Illinois accepts/recognizes high school diplomas from The American School.

On-line High School Diplomas

  • An on-line high school diploma will only be recognized by NCA or the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Junior/Senior Level Students

  • Students enrolling in a baccalaureate degree program must have 20 transferable credit hours.

Re-Entry Students

  • Re-entry students have interrupted their education at SCI-BU for one or more traditional (spring and fall) semesters. Applications for re-entry are evaluated according to current admission policies.

Transfer Students

  • Transfer students MUST be in good standing, with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, from the institution from which they are transferring. Students not in good standing may be admitted on academic probation.
  • Transfer of Credits - the College selectively accepts credits with grades of “C” or higher from other accredited colleges and universities. Acceptance of transfer credits is conditional pending receipt of official transcripts sent directly to Benedictine University at Springfield from the college(s) attended. Students are granted degree credit for transferable courses completed elsewhere, but those grades are not counted in computing the SCI-BU G.P.A.

For students transferring into Springfield College, only twenty-one semester credit hours of electives will be accepted and no more than two credit hours may be in Physical Education.

Courses specific to vocational, occupational, or technical programs are not transferable to Benedictine University at Springfield. Students should consult their advisors about the transferability of any course they may wish to take at another institution.
