General

Grading System
The student’s final grade is determined by the instructor. The system of grading is as follows (quality points are in parenthesis):

A Excellent (4.00)
B Good (3.00)
C Fair (2.00)
D Passing (1.00)
F Failure (0.00)
I Incomplete*
W Withdrawal*
CR Credit
Course was passed and credit awarded, but no letter grade was given.
NC No credit was awarded for the course.
R Repeated.
AU Audit* (no credit)

Academic grade reports for all students are issued at the end of each grading period. Mid-semester grades are distributed through a student’s academic advisor for guidance purposes only; they are not recorded on a student’s permanent record. A change of grade is permitted only for clerical errors. Grade appeals must occur within 90 days. The final grade is recorded on the permanent record. Final grade reports are mailed to students following the posting of grades.

Incomplete
A grade of “I” may be requested by a student for a course in which he or she is doing satisfactory work; but, for illness or other circumstances beyond the student’s control, and as determined by the instructor, the required work cannot be completed by the end of the semester.

To qualify for an “I” grade, a minimum of 75% of the course work must be completed with a passing grade and a student must submit a completed Request for an Incomplete form to the Registrar’s Office. The form must be completed by both student and instructor, but is the student’s responsibility to initiate this process and obtain the necessary signatures.

An “I” is a temporary grade. Failure to complete the course work and obtain a final grade by the last official day of regular classes of the next semester will result in the “I” automatically becoming an “F” grade.

Withdrawal
A grade of “W” is recorded to indicate that a student has withdrawn from a course.

Auditing a Course
Students may audit a course with the permission of the instructor and registrar. Auditors are allowed to participate in class activities to the extent that the instructor permits. No attendance or achievement records are kept for auditors. Students do not receive credit for courses audited; and the course(s) will appear on an SCI transcript with a grade of “AU”. A student may exchange from credit to audit or audit to credit only during the first week of class. Audited courses are not available for credit later or for proficiency by examination. If a course has stated enrollment limits, students taking the course for credit will be enrolled before students auditing the course.

Dean’s List and Dean’s Recognition List
The Dean’s List and Dean’s Recognition List are computed and published once each semester.

Associate Degree: Full-time students who achieve a semester G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher of graded course work, without any incompletes, are named to the Dean’s List for that semester. Part-time students who achieve a semester G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher are named to the Dean’s List if they have completed at least six semester hours of graded course work.

Bachelor’s Degree: To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full time and have at least a 3.5 semester average with a grade of at least “C” in each course and must not have received any incompletes. The Dean’s Recognition List is for part-time students who must be enrolled for a minimum of three (3) hours, must have at least a 3.5 semester average with a grade of at least “C” in each course and must not have received any incompletes. Note: The Dean’s Recognition List is intended for students who are not enrolled full time.
