Disability Support

Benedictine University at Springfield provides individuals with disabilities reasonable accommodations to participate in educational programs, activities, and services. Students with disabilities requiring accommodations to meet course requirements should contact the Learning Disabilities Coordinator, Joyce Surbeck-Harris, PhD x306, jharris@sci.edu as early in the semester as possible.

Disability support is provided for students with permanent or temporary disabilities, whether “hidden” or visible, including physical and learning disabilities. Students requesting assistance must provide appropriate disability documentation and must provide adequate advance notice of such requests.

If documentation of the disability (either learning or physical) is not already on file in the Resource Center, it may be requested. Once on file, an individual student’s disability documentation is shared only at that individual’s request and solely with the parties whom the student wishes it shared.

The Resource Center works with students, faculty, and other campus personnel in a cooperative effort to find appropriate solutions to individual disability needs. This information is kept in confidence and has no effect on admission to the College. As with all BUS students, students with disabilities may request a Learning Profile or Student Success Plan, both of which provide extended knowledge and an action plan towards their improved academic experience.

In addition to the support offered through the Resource Center, the campus's Student Assistance Program (SAP) may benefit those experiencing personal difficulties with school or life in general. More information about the SAP can be found here.
