Commencement 2009
The 79 th Annual Commencement Ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois. (Three blocks west of White Oaks Mall at the corner of Wabash and Koke Mill).
Awards Program & Hooding Ceremony (for bachelor’s degree and master’s degree candidates) will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Angela Hall on the Benedictine University at Springfield campus.
ATTENTION ALL GRADUATES -- Commencement is just around the corner!

FEBRUARY 23, 2009 – MARCH 11, 2009 – ORDER CAPS AND GOWNS!
3 Easy Ways to Order:
1. Online: Go to www.sci.edu. On home page, click on Order Caps and Gowns.
2. Complete form received in the mail and return in postage paid envelope.
3. Pick up a form in the Registrar’s office or the Adult Program’s office and complete.
APRIL 15, 2009 – MAY 09, 2009: PICK UP GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
Students may pick up their 10 complimentary announcements in the Bookstore.
Bookstore Hours: Mon. – Thurs. 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; Fri. 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; or Sat., May 9 8:00 am – 12:00 noon.
MAY 01, 2009 – MAY 13, 2009: CAP and GOWN PICK-UP FOR ALL GRADUATES
Students may pick up their caps and gowns in the Bookstore.
Bookstore Hours: Mon. – Thurs. 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; Fri. 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; or Sat., May 9 8:00 am – 12:00 noon.
MAY 15, 2009: AWARDS & HOODING CEREMONY
7:00 pm -- ANGELA HALL, SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE-BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY.
All students are welcome. However, students receiving an award or graduating with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will receive an invitation to the evening ceremony. Graduates need to wear their commencement gowns (caps are not necessary). Bachelor and Master degree graduates need to bring their velvet hood.
MAY 16, 2009: 10:00 AM -- COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
Location: First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Road , Springfield, Illinois . (Three blocks west of White Oaks Mall at the corner of Wabash and Koke Mill).
Schedule:
9:15 a.m. Students and faculty line-up
9:50 a.m. Procession begins to the sanctuary.
10:00 a.m. Commencement Ceremony in the church’s sanctuary.
The cap, gown, hood and tassel are yours to keep. The ceremony which begins at 10:00 am is expected to last about one and one half hours.

GRADUATION INFORMATION
Guests and Seating: The Commencement Ceremony will be held in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois. (Three blocks west of White Oaks Mall at the corner of Wabash and Koke Mill). There is open seating on the main floor and the balcony. No tickets are required for admission.
Graduation Announcements: You may pick up your ten (10) complimentary announcements April 15 – May 08 in the Bookstore during the following hours:
Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Cap, Gown and Hood Pick-up: All degree candidates must pick up academic attire Friday, May 01 – Wednesday, May 13 in the Bookstore during the following hours:
Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; Saturday, May 9 - 8:00 am – 12:00 noon.

Hood Colors:
Acorn velvet trim represents the Master of Business Administration discipline;
Blue velvet trim represents the Education discipline;
Gold velvet trim represents the Master of Science discipline; and
White velvet trim represents the Master of Arts.Faculty Commencement Regalia
Faculty will be notified by e-mail when commencement regalia is available for pick-up.
Saturday, May 16 -- Line-up and Processional: Please report to the main lobby of the First United Methodist Church by 9:15 am for your line-up position. Students need to wear their caps, gowns and hoods. Line up is in alphabetical order within your degree. Look for signs and volunteers pointing you in the right direction.
*Please leave belongings (purse, phones, cameras, etc) in your car or give them to a family member, as no place is available to leave them during the convocation.

Proper Attire Policy: Business or dress clothes/shoes are appropriate. Light cotton or rayon fabrics are cool in warm weather. Jeans, shorts, gym shoes and beach sandals are not acceptable. Writing on caps is not acceptable.
Substance Abuse Policy: Consumption of alcohol or any other chemical substance is prohibited before and during the Commencement Convocation. Any individual possessing or consuming these substances will be removed from the program.
