assessment

Welcome to Springfield College's assessment Web site. In order to help create what educators call a "culture of assessment" on campus, SCI's Assessment Committee opened the site in January 2001. Here you will find links to Web sites with nuts-and-bolts information on how to do assessment, and a little bit about the theory as well. As our site grows, we will add locally generated information about resources in SCI's Becker Library, minutes and reports of the Assessment Committee, and other information that will help us all do a better job of assessing what learning takes place on our campus. According to Cecilia L. López of NCA, successful assessment plans include "clearly stated goals for all academic programs" that are reflected in "explicit objectives for student learning derived from those goals that are publicly stated and linked to specific measures." They also require investment of "substantial amounts of time and resources in providing professional development opportunities." We hope the information in this Web site will help us all to meet those goals.
