I earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from Illinois State University and a Masters Degree from University of Illinois at Springfield (Sangamon State). Over the years I've worked under the Illinois Law Enforcement Commission, the Vocational Alternatives Program (training and employment for ex-offenders) and worked in a variety of functions in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Having worked in and around the criminal justice system for over thirty years has hopefully enhanced my ability to communicate the bridge between theory and real life in the field. I spent over twenty years working in the Illinois prison system (12 at the Taylorville Correctional Center) and enjoyed the people I worked with including the clientele. Through an amazing stroke of luck I was able to retire in August of 2002.
My wife and I are both from Sullivan, Illinois and I have lived in Springfield for 25 years. We have two adult sons with whom we are still closely involved, a grandson and an old dog. We count as an asset our many friends in the community. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to teach at Springfield College/Benedictine University. This is a very special environment. I enjoy coming to class and talking about important social issues and getting strong input from students. We have good instructors and staff as well as students who are motivated to be here. I see unlimited potential for students here to be able to study and learn in a capitol city which offers so many resources.
