"A fine choice for any collection of contemporary literature.”

Library Journal

“A delightful combination of poetry and short fiction…irresistible…it’s high time Quiddity gets a shout-out from the review community.”

“The brilliant thing about the medium is to hear poets reading, speaking and singing their works and the extra impact that it makes on the listener.”

Cambridge University Press

Quiddity’s international literary journal is a publication of Benedictine University at Springfield. It is published semi-annually. Quiddity’s companion public-radio program is produced in partnership Illinois Public Radio’s hub-station, NPR member and PRI affiliate WUIS/WIPA.

The journal publishes exemplary prose and poetry from emerging and established writers around the world. International submissions are encouraged. The radio program features interviews with select authors, best-selling and burgeoning. Contributors to the print journal may be invited to read their work for the public-radio program.

Quiddity, by definition, means “the real nature or essence of a thing; that which makes it what it is.” Quiddity seeks not only work from a wide and diverse pool of individuals but also to bring those voices to a wide audience of listeners and readers.

Words have an exquisite way of linking—sometimes across time, culture, and understanding—writer and reader in a fugitive embrace, and Quiddity is honored to play a part in that sharing.

As such, Quiddity has deep regard for and is profoundly grateful to its listeners, readers, and contributors, without whom our charge would be without quiddity. Thank you for sharing in that fugitive embrace.
