About Us

Quiddity international literary journal is a publication of Springfield College-Benedictine University. It is published semi-annually in April and October. Quiddity’s companion public-radio program is produced by Illinois Public Radio’s hub station, WUIS/WIPA, NPR member and PRI affiliate, and airs regularly. Contributors to the print journal may be invited to read their work for the public-radio program.

The term quiddity denotes, by OED definition, “the real nature or essence of a thing; that which makes it what it is.” Without doubt, the crafters of literary art are its very essence, and those who partake in the discourse make it what it is.

As such, it is the aim of Quiddity to live up to its namesake principles by publishing exemplary poetry and prose from emerging and established writers around the world. (International submissions are encouraged. Click here for general submission guidelines.)

Quiddity also brings interviews and conversations with those writers to readers and listeners. To hear selections of conversations from the public-radio program and works featured on the public-radio program, click here.
